During the process of welding there are many gases, fumes and dust that are created and released into the air. These gases are a huge hazard to human health. Simply ventilating a workshop doesn't keep you, your welders and your employees from inhaling dangerous and hazardous welding fumes. Sufficient protection can only be achieved by implementing a full exhaust and ventilation system at the workzone and throughout the plant.

Kemper America provides many different products to combat hazardous welding fumes and gases, including:

  • Welding Tables
  • Welding Exhaust Arms
  • Welding Exhaust Fans
  • Welding Exhaust Hoods

Kemper America has dedicated their entire welding fume extraction business on keeping welders, and those who work in close quarters with welders, safe. Welding has always been a hazardous occupation. There are open flames, flying sparks and toxic gases in close proximity to a welder's face. With that being said, it didn't take long for welders to realize they were in need of protection.

The 1930s

Factory production was booming, meaning so was the demand for welders. This lead to an overwhelming need for head protection such as goggles and face shields.

The 1940s

During the second world war war manufacturing took most of the effort away from factories. Factor in that most men were joining the forces and leaving their jobs behind, the need to take care of the remaining willing to work became a top priority. So the need to protect the entire head and face lead to the creation of the first welding helmets.

The 1950s and The 1960s

This era brought on the first plastic and fiberglass hardhats. During the dawn of the sixties the first adjustable spectacle and nylon welding helmet were introduced to welders.

The 1970s

The 70s was when workplace safety became of upmost importants. President Richard Nixon first signed the Occupational Safety and Health Act, which laid the groundwork for the OSHA that we know today. This act placed safety in the hands of the employers and required manufactures to warn of any hazards their products could cause.

Autodark 550 Welding Helmet | Kemper AmericaThe 1980s

The first fully-functioning auto darkeing welding helmets made their way to the market.

The 90s until Now

There have been many advances in welding safety in the past 23 years. Now Kemper America offers a huge variety of welding safety products such as curtain, helmets, and welding fume extractors. They also offer advanced welding tables and the SparkTRAP which will reduce the risk of welding fires due to sparks.

During many metal fabricating processes, filter systems often have to deal with large amounts of dust, glowing particles and flying sparks.

Spark TrapThe SparkTRAP separator developed by KEMPER virtually completes separation of sparks and even larger particles (e.g. cigarettes) before they reach the filter medium. This decreases the risk of filter fires significantly and prolongs the life span of the filter.

Principle of operation:
In the upstream swirl nozzle air is getting rotated. In the acceleration path that follows, the rotation speed increases up to 100 mph. Larger particles like sparks or other glowing objects are separated from the airstream and redirected into the nozzle where they are captured in a collection tank. The collection tank can be removed for disposal even while the unit is running.

  • Virtually complete separation of sparks and large particles
  • reduction of filter fires to an absolute minimum
  • increased filter service life
  • reduction of operating costs
  • simple installation
  • works with existing duct work
  • easy removal of collection tank even during operation
  • Spark detection can be added to further reduce fire risk

It's hard to believe that FABTECH 2012 has come to an end.

A record high number of attendees walked the more than 400,000 net square feet of floor space at the convention center and it's clear to say that this year's show was a great success.

Lots of live demonstrations were thrilling to watch for attendees, and and especially the Kemper America Show Booth gathered a lot of attention and many "oohs" and "aaahs" for it's sleek look.

We met many interested prospects and were able to provide them hands on product demonstrations of our line of german engineered welding smoke exhaust systems.

An ode to FABTECH 2012 -

Goodbye convention center with your neon lights glowing.

Goodbye thousands of booths with exhibitors showing.

Goodbye machines whirring.

Goodbye sparks flying.

Goodbye sellers selling

And goodbye buyers buying.

Goodbye media room with outlets aplenty.

Goodbye two Starbucks downstairs with your coffee sized venti.

Goodbye stress balls and chocolates and flash drives and bags.

Goodbye bus rides to hotels carrying lots of great swag.

Goodbye show Happy Hour with your complimentary beers.

Goodbye FABTECH expo…until next year.

Kemper Modular Extraction Table

Colorado Springs Utilities contacted KEMPER to update their welding area with an exhaust table that fits into the existing space.

The problem they were facing was that their water table was not only messy and hard to clean, but also filled their shop with dust and smoke. On top of that, employees had to manually clean all cut items from residue, what was a tremendous waste of time and holding up production.

By changing to KEMPER's KemTab Flex Modular Extraction Table, they were able to precisely fit the new exhaust table into the existing cutting portal. A KEMPER Central Extraction Unit 8000 completed the installation.

Now the amount of dust and grime in the shop has been highly reduced, and even when cutting aluminum and stainless steel air pollution is now kept under the recommended exposure limits.

KemTab Basic & KemTab Flex

plasma-table-01Unlike welding, where the main risk is rising smoke and fumes that need to be captured before they reach the welder's breathing zone, cutting creates another problem: Due to the high cutting pressure during plasma-, laser- or flame cutting, dust, sparks and fumes are pushed into the table and get swirled up again to the top. A conventional extraction from the bottom or the sides would not be sufficient, and employees and machinery alike would suffer from various health problems or break downs.

That's why KEMPER designed a new extraction table which takes advantage of the rising dust, by creating a cyclone like air flow where sparks and heavy particles gets separated on the bottom, and fumes and finer particles are captured near the surface of the table.

Modular Construction let's you create the cutting table of your dreams: the table segments come in various widths and can be joined together to achieve any desired cutting bed size (and can be even added on later) according to your budget and size requirements.

Sectional Exhaust - Big Savings: Mechanical exhaust is controlled by a control bar where a slide is attached to the cutting portal. Exhaust is only activated as long as the cutter is located above the section. The table can be extracted with low volume, which cuts down energy cost by operating at the lowest possible extraction rate.

KemTab Flex: This KemTab table is also available in flat pack design for economical shipping and easy assembly on site.
